Canton is calling

That's right, it's calling.  It's been far too long and I MUST go soon.  I'm having withdrawals.

So this summer one of my BFFs, Gina and I will brave the heat and the sweat to taken in what is known as First Monday (on Friday). Read about it here.

This is us moments after arriving in Canton and getting out of an air conditioned car.  We never looked this good again.

This is my place.  I love it!  A place where you can get "crap you wouldn't pick up off the side of the road" (as my mom lovingly refers to it as).  It's not her thing.

Here are some finds from previous trips....

Door made into a headboard.

Old window (obviously)

Old picture, the walls are a different color and the shutters are in a different location.

I have found so many wonderful things there.

You should go if you can.  It's really fun and there is practically something for everyone.

Fashion Inspiration

I don't consider myself a fashionista.  As mentioned before Old Navy, TJMaxx and Target are generally where I get my clothes.  However, I like to look fashionable and comfortable.

Usually I get my inspiration from Pinterest.  I might have a piece of clothing that I love or want to wear differently so I consult Pinterest.  I just type in "navy pants" or "navy pants outfit" and viola!  there are all kinds of ideas.  Then I pin them to my Fashion-Blue board.  I also have a Fashion-Graphic Tees board, a Fashion-Black and White board and so on.  I think you get the idea.  There is a board for everything.  Then when I'm getting ready I just consult my boards to figure out what I'm in the mood to wear.  That's basically it.

Here are some examples of my favorite outfits that I've recreated:

Color combo:
"No. 28 - Things you can find in my closet" by hbhamburg on Polyvore:
denim button down olive pants animal print clutch:
Black Gingham and Olive Khakis - Alterations Needed:
yellow and chambray:
i love this entire outfit, although ive never been a fan of cheetah print. maybe if the loafers were gold and glittery? as well as a matching belt.:

Because I live in Texas and its hot 8 of the 12 months of the year. I rarely get to wear boots, scarves, cardigans or jackets.  You name all the cute accessories and they're out.  A lot of the outfits are modified, for example I'll switch out capris or pants for walking shorts.  I don't work in a traditional office and I'm outside a portion of my day walking to and from buildings.  Walking shorts are tailored enough that they look professional, but I won't be a puddle before I reach my destination.

Since the layering is generally out, I choose to add some cute shoes and earrings or a necklace.  I highly recommend the leather earrings from Nickel and Suede (mentioned in a previous post).  I also think a great pair of leopard flats or pumps are a must, they go with so much.  Seriously, you can wear them with any color and they're fun!

If you have any questions about anything specific, let me know.  This post was pretty general and I can get more detailed, but thought this was a great starting point.

This is me on Pinterest.  You can find all of my fashion boards there.

I really like my Keurig....and so does Shane

After my trip to Kansas (I hope to blog about it soon) I was convinced we needed a Keurig.  That is all I used while there and I fell in love.

After doing the 21 day fix (I'll also blog about that) I'm off of creamer and really anything else in my coffee.  So the flavored coffee is what's working for me and Shane, who is also drinking his coffee black.

This is the one I bought and it gets used a lot!

Keurig® K10/K15 Brewing System
We've been testing out flavors and these are my two favorites,

I got them both at my local grocery store.

I know I'm really late to the show on this one, but I was a big regular coffee drinker and the creamer was working for me.  Not any more!!!  I'm seriously thinking about putting the big coffee maker away...we haven't used it in 3 weeks.  Now I know why everyone was flipping their lids over this contraption. Its awesome!

Favorites

I thought I would share some of my favorite things.  I have a lot of favorites, some would say I'm picky.  However, when I find something I like I stick with it.  I get asked a lot where I got that shirt or what a great idea.  Honestly, I just read a lot of blogs (I would even say its a hobby) and pinterest.

I thought I would do a series.

First up, Fashion.....

I'm cheap.  I rarely spend a lot of money on any one thing.  I'm a fan of TJMaxx, Target and Old Navy.

I'm loving these ballet flats
I shouldn't wear these because of my planters facsiitis (you needed to know this), but they are cute, cheap and rather cushy.  I think I need the brown, blue and striped ones.

I love these leather earrings.

I have several pairs.
They are so light weight, you don't feel them.  I'm someone that doesn't like to feel my earrings. These are perfect.

I run and these are my shoes.  I like them, I'm not small and my feet definitely are not small.  These work for me.

I love graphic tees, especially with jeans and a cardigan.  Its hot here, so the cardigan is out for now. Here are a few of my favorites right now.

Hazel and Olive.....I've gotten lots of comments on this one.

I've been a fan of Hello Apparel for a while.....great tees.

2 Years

Its been 2 years since I updated my blog.
That's a long time.
Too long.
Break over.
I have so much to tell you and so much to do.
Lots of great ideas to share.
I went to Camp Create this past weekend and learned a lot about myself, God's plan for me and fulfilling my desire that God put in my heart so many years ago.
So here's to a fresh start, an exciting start.

And to checking off the first thing on my list.....

Bluebonnets

We were blessed this year with a lot of rain, so that meant we would have a lot of bluebonnets.

Fortunately there was a great spot for pictures not far from the house.

Old House

I have this thing for old houses.  Fascinated by the architecture and the history.  I love to look at abandoned ones and wonder, "what happen, why are they all alone, where are the families that lived in them?"

There is this old house that I pass pretty regularly when I drive down to downtown Bryan.  I've often wondered about it, who lived there, why is it vacant now.  It came on the market recently and my sister is a realtor, so I asked her if she could show me around.  She too has a thing for old house.

Original fixtures in the lower floors.

 First fireplace
 Fabulous front door.

 Second fireplace
 Parlor?

 Amazing!!!

HELLO!  Stain glass in the dinning room.

Amazing stain glass that is falling apart :(

Someone did live her recently, look at that fan....yikes!

 Stairs to the attic.

The only bathroom, but look at the tub!

 The attic.

 Original wallpaper!

Door bell at the back door.

Side shot.  The window in the middle of the second floor is that stain glass one that is falling apart.

 Old well

I'm kicking myself for not getting a picture of the front of the house and the pocket doors into what I think is the Parlor.  They worked just great and looked awesome!

I did some research and its is registered on the National Trust for Historic Preservation.  They haven't converted all their files to digital so there was just basic information I could find.  It was built sometime between 1910-1930 and it was called the Moore house.  I'd love to learn more.

So sad....what happen to this place?  Obviously it was loved once.  It's a huge house, but oh my does it need work....total overhaul.  The kitchen is a total mess and it would definitely need a second bathroom.  Come on lottery!!!  I'd think about moving it, there is just no parking and its on an incredibly busy street.  What do you think....great place for parties, scrapbook retreats, bed and breakfast?
